Book of the week 6/6/07 New Warriors #1

Written by Kevin Grevioux
Art by Paco Medina

You know I had one big problem with Civil War that I never really expressed. A lot of people were upset about the delays, everyone was complaining about the ending, that stuff didn't bother me. What really bothered me was how the New Warriors were displayed in Civil War.

I got hooked on comics when I was in the third grade and there are two books I can thank for that. Amazing spider-man and the New Warriors. I just loved that book, back in the day with Thrasher, Marvel boy, Nova, Namorita, Speedball, sil and Firestar. It was such a great book! If you haven't read those issues, and I don't think a lot of people have, the coolest thing it can be compared to is marvel's version of the titans. Like a lot of books it lost it's way an eventually got canceled but a couple of years ago I saw that they were releasing a New Warriors mini-series and I was really anticipating it. Boy was it a let down. They turned the warriors into clowns that were trying to do a reality super hero show, totally out of all character.

I was very upset that marvel not only killed this team but did so in such a throw away fashion.....and then I read this issue.....and I was back in the third grade again. Kevin Grevioux did a great job with this book and I love Paco Medina's art. I was really sad to see him leave New X-men Academy but now I'm happy he left. In a surprising move, this first issue follows one mysterious hero and two former new x-men who were de-powered after M-day, Sofia and ....Beak!!! A human Beak. We learn that someone is trying to re-assemble the New Warriors and in the last page we get a shot of someone in the night thrasher costume. The question is, is it Dwayne Taylor. I really hope so, he's such a great character and would really have a place in the post Civil War marvel universe. I was really worried when I found out that marvel was re-launching this book but after this issue I am completely on board!!!!

Titans Together on the big screen?

Apparently a Teen Titans movie has been green lit and Mark Verheiden, current writer of Batman/superman is doing the screen play. He hinted that he plans on using most of the main titans but I can't help but think that this movie is a bad idea.

Superman Doomsday DVD

DCcomics.com has released the specs for the death of superman animated movie and I have to admit it looks promising. It even got a PG-13 rating!

Best reason to buy it though? Special clip of the next DC animated movie- Justice League: The New Frontier. Now that's something to be excited about.

Eric's Pick 05/30/07 Green Lantern #20

Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Daniel Acuna

Welcome to the first weekly pick here at fanboysstrikeback! Briefly covering our format, each week, myself or David will pick our favorite book that came out that week and write a review. The hand of fate has chosen me this week and my pick was Green Lantern #20. I've really been bored with the many of the story arcs in this book until lately. It seemed DC brought Hal Jordan back from the dead without giving him any direction to go in (which they've done with several other characters as well). Within the last several issues though Geoff Johns has really started to tie Hal back into his original supporting cast. I've enjoyed seeing Hal have to deal with his relationships to Carol, Tom, and the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. in light of what he did in the past. This last arc has also brought back the star sapphire which is a great contrast to the green lantern corps. I think Johns has really found how to write Hal Jordan as the cocky pilot character he is. I enjoyed seeing Hal dealing with his past girlfriend and his current one at the same time. Daniel Acuna has also done a great job on the artwork in this book over the last several issues. The part that really got me excited was the last page and seeing a growing collection of lanterns. Something is brewing and it looks to be big!

Marvel TV

I guess marvel is trying to ride on youtube's wave of success. When I first heard about marvel TV I thought it would be a joke but I have to say, it's pretty funny. I really like the fact that they're not taking themselves seriously.

What do you think?
