Book of the week 6/20/07 Captain America #27

Written by Ed Brubaker
Pencils and inks by Steve Epting and Mike Perkins
Coloring by Frank D'Armata
Lettering by Joe caramagna

This was a very big week from DC with a lot of surprises but I was left with mixed feelings about those books. Captain America 27 was the last book that I read and in one sentence I can sum up why it was chosen as the book of the week.

I'm OK with Steve Rogers death.

Before reading this issue I still found myself mourning over cap, heck I barely made it through Fallen Son: Spider-man this week without crying like a baby, but Brubaker truly does the impossible. He brings Bucky back to life (with a metal arm no less) and I am totally in love with the whole thing. I WANT BUCKY TO BE CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!! Brubaker is definitely teasing this but I can only hope that he follows through.

Epting and Perkins do an amazing job on this book but I have to say that the wild card on this team is Caramagna's coloring. You would expect that a Captain America book would be bright and full of red, white and blue but the tone of this book is really dark and Caramagna's coloring does a beautiful job of conveying this. I can say that this is the first time in my comic reading history that I have actually taken notice of the coloring and it's something to be commended.

I'm so glad this book is back on schedule and I can't wait to see what happens next. All I know is that Bucky Barnes now has cap's shield and it looks good on him.
